The (UV) lights are on for the Amsterdam Light Festival

Lumen Solutions has been given the opportunity to contribute to the technical light-interpretation for a work of art, for the Amsterdam Light Festival.

Amsterdam Light Festival is an annual event where artists from all over the world can exhibit light artworks, specifically in Amsterdam. This year's line-up included an artwork by artist Peter Snijder called 'PORTAM CIVITATIS' (the gates of the city ). From the opening in November to the closing in January, this artwork attracts visitors on foot, by bicycle or by boat to the Amsterdam Hermitage.

With its pointed towers and many arches, this work of art is a subtle reference to a popular architectural style of the past, especially the many Gothic churches that were built across Europe between 1140 and 1500. For example, you can think of the impressive Notre Dame in Paris or the Old Church in Amsterdam.

However, there is a difference between this artwork and the gothic churches of the past, mainly in the materials that have been used. For this 'city gate' Snijder has not cared about the characteristic features, i.e. heavy stones and huge glass windows. 'PORTAM CIVITATIS' is a simple construction of fragile wires that glow like drawn lines with the help of UV light. Lumen Solutions was able to contribute to this by supplying this project with UV lighting.

On behalf of Lumen Solutions, we have done our best to meet the demands and wishes of this project as well as possible, and we also hope that the Amsterdam Light Festival is satisfied with the achieved result.

In addition, we would like to thank the Amsterdam Light Festival & artist Peter Snijder for a great collaboration, and we wish them a lot of fun with this expressive work of art in the coming years.
