Citymall Almere, Almere (2013)

Almere shines in new colors

Lumen Solutions has recently been given an opportunity to show its expertise with a challenging project concerning a public shopping center called the Citymall, in Almere.

This outdoor project consists of two parts: the canopy and the shop premises.

Part 1 - Canopy:

Dura Vermeer Bouw Hengelo and Imtech Building Services Amersfoort are building a more attractive and appealing Citymall Almere (the new part of Almere Centrum). This project was commissioned by Unibail-Rodamco.

One of the most important projects to limit wind hindrance in the shopping center is the roof on the Forum. The wind nuisance was partly caused by the position of the Lakeside building, which includes Restaurant Bobbie Beer. The canopy was placed against this building to minimize the so-called 'Downwind'.

In addition to tackling the wind hindrance, there has been a focus on creating a more pleasant layout for the public space & revising the lighting of street furniture and plants.

After an extensive engineering project by Project Leader Gerrit Schottert with Stefan Verhoef of the company InventDesign in Amsterdam, we delivered 268 pieces of custom made RGBW LED luminaires divided into four and twofold clusters.

Part 2 - Retail properties:

Following the qualitative improvements already carried out within Citymall Almere, the revitalization of Block 2, or “the Jewel” by David Chipperfield Architects (London), has now been implemented.

The general idea behind this revitalization is to pull up the shop fronts and the shopkeepers' penants to a common line instead of the current stepped line. This will significantly improve the visibility of the store and give the opportunity to give a renewed attractive interpretation of the facade.

The concrete piers, at the site partitions, will undergo a uniform transformation by providing them with a black glass front panel, which will give room for an unambiguous expression of the trade names of the shopkeepers. Finally, the glass front facade above is also tackled by applying horizontal light lines that will illuminate the remaining two glass strips.

After an extensive engineering project by project leader Gerrit Schottert, 597 IP65 classified Cree bars from DecaLed were chosen after various demo setups. This product operates on 230 VAC with a wattage of 40W and a beam angle of 10 ° x 35 ° (asymmetrical).

On behalf of Lumen Solutions, we have done our best to meet the demands and wishes of this project as well as possible, and we also hope that the Citymall Almere is satisfied with the achieved result.

We would also like to thank Citymall Almere, Unibail-Rodamco, Dura Vermeer Bouw Hengelo, Imtech Building Services Amersfoort and all other parties involved for a great cooperation, and we wish them a lot of fun with this beautiful spacein the coming years.
