Lighting Artwork Biketunnel Zuidas, Amsterdam (2019)

Zuidas sees light at the end of the tunnel.

Lumen Solutions has been asked to think about the creative interpretation of a new lighting-artwork in a bicycle tunnel, on the Amsterdam Zuidas.

Since the beginning of March 2019, this bicycle tunnel under the Beethovenstraat has been brightened up with a beautiful light-artwork. For cyclists it contributes to a pleasant and surprising "guidance" alongside the car traffic. The tunnel is located next to the WTC-construction site. Everyone who cycles past the artwork activates it, so it in turn lights up, wich results in the colors "cycling with you". In this tunnel you are never alone, but always together with the light.

The artwork has been designed by lighting designer Stephanie de Boer-Hansen, from Lies Hansen Light & Design. Lumen Solutions has been responsible for the technical realization, in collaboration with Techdynamics and Invent Design.

The custom made steel wheels are equipped with RGB LEDs and a plastic protective cap, which are controlled by 5 sensors. These individual sensors will ensure that a part of the artwork will trigger / activate.

We, on behalf of Lumen Solutions, have done our best to meet the demands and wishes of this project as well as possible, and we also hope that lighting designer Stephanie de Boer-Hansen is satisfied with the achieved result.

In addition, we would like to thank Stephanie de Boer-Hansen, Tech Dynamics & Invent Design for a great collaboration, and we wish them much pleasure in the coming years with this beautiful piece of artwork.
